Rock Creek Park Nature Center and Planetarium

On October 6, 2016, the Daniel A Payne’s Percy Julian Institute will sponsor a field trip to the Rock Creek Park Nature Center and Planetarium for middle schools students. Through active demonstrations students will learn about Astronomy in the planetarium program and in the environmental education program they will learn the importance of conserving and protecting our natural resources.

National Building Museum

On October 18, 2016, the Daniel A Payne’s Percy Julian Institute will sponsor a field trip to the National Building Museum. Students will use Discovery Carts to do hands-on activities building bridges, arches, and trestles. They will also visit exhibits at the Museum and engage in hands-on installation activities and learn how objects are designed and built.

George Mason University STEM Day

On November 18, 2016, the Daniel A Payne’s Percy Julian Institute will sponsor a field trip for middle school students to George Mason University’s STEM Day. Students will tour the campus and engage in activities covering various topics, including Forensic Science, Biology, Sports Medicine, Robotics, and video game design.  Students will also engage in activities and demonstrations in other STEM disciplines, and visit the University Planetarium.

Moneywise Financial Empowerment Summit

On December 3, 2016, the Daniel A Payne CDC will collaborate with the PBS long-running personal finance show Moneywise with Kelvin Boston and other strategic partners to host the Moneywise Financial Empowerment Summit. Children’s Science Center Lab

The DAPCDC's Percy Julian Institute will sponsor a field trip for middle school students to the Children's Science Center Lab (http://childsci.org).  While there, students will visit three (3) exhibit stations that feature hands-on activities.  They will conduct experiments at the Experiment Bar  that demonstrate the fundamentals of biology, chemistry, and physics.  At the Inspiration Hub, interactive exhibits will show students the real-world applications of STEM.  Students will tackle engineering design challenges at the Tinker Shop.
